Start
The tools workspace has 3 panels. The top menu panel displays the tool menu and is used to select a tool. The available menu options depend on the user's role. The left panel displays the selected tool options, tool options can also be restricted based on role. The right panel is the main work area and displays the option selected and results of processing.
Content
The Content tool is used to manage the site tree structure and publish content. The tree structure supports an unlimited hierarchy of categories. Typically the tree structure matches the site navigation with the ability to exclude categories from navigation. Content pages are published in a category. Virtual pages allow you to have a single page appear in multiple categories. Optionally assign permissions to Categories and Content pages for selective access and display. You can move content or a category and associated content within the tree.
Content Publishing
Editing a site category or page displays a tabbed form. Tabbed forms are used by most AssetNow NX tools. The tabbed form logically divides the content publishing process into content, meta-data, properties (on, off, scheduled etc.), assets (images, files, links), approval, revisions, and permissions components. Tabs can be selectively displayed/enabled based on user permissions. Content can be previewed directly in the tools work area (using the site layout and styles) irrespective of the content status.
XHTML Editor
Clicking the content body in the form launches the X/HTML editor (a simple markup editor is also available). The editor supports the latest W3C standards including XML/XHTML and CSS. Publishers can drag/drop or copy/paste documents, images, and files directly into the editor. images (including those in Word documents) and files are automatically uploaded. The simple editor interface provides a instant access to essential publishing options inclduing spellchecking. The style selection menu is fully customizable to display your site specific styles. Editor display, preview and accessibility preview can all be customized.
Content Assets
Images and files can be uploaded in a number of ways. These include standard web browser form-based uploading, using the AssetNow NX java upload applet, and uploading directly in the XHTML editor. When using the upload applet or editor either select a specific image or file or drag/drop images and file/s for automatic uploading. The upload applet can transfer very large files reliably and supports scaling of jpg images to present dimensions (great for digital camera pictures). Images can also be scaled by AssetNow NX after upload.
Comments
AssetNow NX features a built-in comment system allowing visitors participate by posting comments. Comments can be enabled, closed, and displayed for individual pages. You can use the comment system to publish weblogs (blogs). Comments can be moderated (require approval) before display. A comment feed is also generated automatically. AssetNow NX applies a number of technical measures to counteract comment spam.
Mailing Lists (Newsletters)
The newsletter tools is used to publish newsletters and manage subscribers. The format of the X/HTML and plain text versions of the newsletter is determined by newsletter templates that are completely separate from the site templates. Typically the content for a newsletter will come from an assigned category in the site tree. The content page is automatically converted to a plain text version which can then be manually revised. The newsletter tool provides subscriber management and tracking.
Library
AssetNow NX pages can use page specific images and files or shared assets from the library. The library uses a tree folder structure to store images and files in an unlimited hierarchy. Optionally assign publisher group permissions to restrict access to specific library folders. Library images and files can be selected and inserted into content using the editor. If a library asset is changed the change propagates to any content pages using the image or file. The library tool shows in which categories/pages a library item is being used.
Reports
Built-in tracking continually gathers visitor and content usage data. This data is processed and presented as a number of business oriented metric reports. The metrics are based on leading web analytic recommendations and provide values that can be used as key performance indicators for website process improvements. Traffic, visitor, geographic, referral, outbound links, search engine activity, content specific metrics (entry, exit, stickiness etc.), and web browser technical data are available. AssetNow excludes automated and rouge agents from visitor and page data.
Permissions
User, Group, and Role permissions allow you to assign access permissions for content and tools. Access permissions can be set by sign-in with a username/password, link activated, or location activated (based on visitor country). This allows you to display different content to visitors based on their location and/or permissions. site features such as search, sitemap and navigation change in response the visitor permissions.
System
The system tools provides a number of administrative functions including module configuration, server disk usage reporting (with chart drill-down to identify where disk resources are going), debugging, i18n language bundle file editing, widget editing, search administration, link management, and site setup.
