AssetNow NX uses the XStandard editor as a add-on/plug-in within supported web browsers. Installation of the editor control is automatic for supported web browsers on Microsoft Windows with the required control downloaded automatically by the browser from your AssetNow NX site. OS X users must download and install XStandard.
1. Editor does not Install Correctly
In a few cases the editor control may not install correctly. A number of factors may cause this including network restrictions preventing downloading of the control, your browser version, browser security settings etc. The best solution is to download and run the .exe
file for Windows or .dmg
file for OS X to install the editor on your machine.
In this case you can download the XStandard editor control from section 4 below.
After download double-click the file to run it and install XStandard on your machine.
There is also a known issue with add-on installation in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7. If the add-on does not install in IE7 download and install XStandard locally as described above.
2. Upgrading Extension in Firefox
Firefox does not support an automatic upgrading option for the editor plug-in control. To upgrade to the latest version using Firefox and select the required .xpi
plug-in from section 4 below.
3. License Error - Freeware Version
If the XStandard license file has expired or is invalid the freeware version of the editor will be displayed. This version is limited to essentially a text editor as all web services enabled features including image and file uploading are not available.
If you use have a more than one domain name pointing to the AssetNow NX site, make sure you are editing using the domain name the editor license was issued for.
Next confirm that the license file on your server is valid. You can check the licensed domain/s by opening the license file in a text editor.
Lastly check that the URL for the editor domain in the AssetNow NX settings is the same as the URL of the license.
Also note that the license files for XStandard version 1 and version 2 are different and not compatible with each other. If you upgrade to version 2 you will require a new version 2 license file.
4. Downloads
Download the current version from the XStandard site. The XStandard site always provides the most recent version:

5. Upgrading/Uninstalling
If you download and install XStandard on your machine using the the XStandard installer .exe
(or .dmg
on OS X) it will alway install the latest version and try to remove previous versions.
On Windows, the installer installs XStandard in C:\Program Files\XStandard
and writes to the Windows registry to tell Firefox, Opera and Safari where to find the plug-in.
On Windows to uninstall XStandard installed by the installer .exe from the Start menu select All Programs > XStandard > Uninstall.
On OS X when installed using the .dmg
delete /Applications/XStandard
and /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/XStandard.plugin.
In Microsoft Internet Explorer, if the editor is installed (auto-installed) using the .cab
file, you can disable/remove XStandard via the browser Tools > Internet Options > Programs > Manage Add-Ons
menu.
In Firefox 1 and Firefox 2, if the editor is installed via a .xpi
add-on (plug-in), it will be installed in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins
Firefox will use this version instead of the one installed by the installer. The installer will try to remove NPXStandard.dll
from the plugins folder.
In Firefox 3, plug-ins installed via .xpi
will be installed in the user's personal profile and called extensions. These extensions can be unistalled via the Firefox extensions (add-ons) tools menu item where the XStandard extension will be listed.
6. Using Different Versions
Only one version of XStandard can be installed in web browser. If you have sites using different versions of XStandard you have to install the required versions on different browsers. For example install the latest version as your default with Microsoft Internet Explorer, and earlier version via .xpi
in Firefox. To do this delete the Firefox plug-in as described above and then load the .xpi
for the earlier version in Firefox to install it.
