Publish with a Web Browser

AssetNow NX runs on the web server so you do not have to install any special software on your local computer.

An AssetNow NX website comprises two areas. The first is the website which displays the content you publish and is commonly referred to as the "site" or "front-end". The second area displays the AssetNow NX publishing and administration tools and is called the "tools" or "back-end".

Like all websites the website generated by AssetNow NX will be compatible with all browsers your web designer has designed it to work with. AssetNow NX does not dictate or limit how the website is designed and what features your design can implement.

AssetNow NX Tools

To use the AssetNow NX tools you need a compatible web browser. Major browsers on computers running Microsoft Windows are supported, these include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Mozilla (Netscape).

To access the tools you must have an AssetNow NX user account with the appropriate tool access permissions. After signing in with your account username and password you can access the tools either by clicking a "tools" link if made available by your designer, or using the tools URL (web address).

The tool workspace comprises 3 panels:

  1. The top panel (blue) always displays a menu of the available tools. To use a tool select if from this menu. The available tools depend on your permissions as setup by your site administrator. A publisher may only have access to the Content and Reports tools allowing them to publish content an review content performance metrics.
  2. The left panel (light blue) displays options specific to the selected tool such as selecting a site category in the Content tool shown above. This panel can be collapsed by clicking the panel icon at the left of the top panel.
  3. The right panel (white) displays the tool function selected in the left panel and the results of processing actions taken. This panel is also called the main panel.

After selecting a tool function most of your actions will take place in the main panel. Collapsing the left panel is useful if you are working in a small screen such as notebook computer.

Tabbed Form

All of the AssetNow NX tools work in a consistent way by listing items in the main panel. Once a specific item is selected in the main panel a tabbed form is used to make any changes.

Pop-Up Windows

Some options can not be presented in the main panel and launch a pop-up window when selected. You complete the operation in the window and close the window when finished. The main panel will update to reflect any changes made in the pop-up window.

Content Preview

You can also view the site (front-end) directly in the tools main panel. Content can be previewed prior to approval and activation for site display. This allows you to review content using the site visual formatting and styles while you are publishing. By collapsing the left tool panel you can display the page full-width. Clicking the collapse icon again or selecting any tool from the top menu panel will display the left tool panel.

Metrics

Not only can you publish with your web browser but you can also check on your site traffic and content performance. AssetNow NX has integrated real-time metrics with Flash charting. We report a range of metrics suitable for content sites including stickiness, popularity, and allocation and contribution values. Reports are also available for general data such as traffic, visitors, geographic location and web browser technical details. Metrics can be used for presenting key performance indicators (KPI) for on-going assessment and improvement of your site.

AssetNow NX provides many other features directly in your web browser including spellchecking, image and file uploading (with support for very large file transfers), and image resizing.

Since AssetNow NX runs on your web server there is no software to install and maintain on your publishing computers, and your staff can access the tools from any location with a suitable web browser and Internet connection.
